Pet Health Insurance

Each year at least one pet in three will require veterinary treatment for illness or an accident. As treatments become more complex and sophisticated, it is inevitable that costs will rise. A cataract operation, for example, is likely to cost over £2000 and a hip replacement in the region of £4000. Many medical conditions such as skin infections and arthritis are likely to require long term treatment which can be equally costly. Consequently, we strongly recommend pet health insurance.

BSAVA logo The British Small Animal Veterinary Association also recommends the principle of Pet Health Insurance to its members and their clients.

Policies are available from many different companies and they vary a great deal in the extent of cover offered. It is essential to read the small print and preferably opt for a company which offers lifetime cover for each illness and injury. You should also look at how much they will pay out each year some companies will pay just the first £1000 of a claim, others will pay £6000, some companies will even pay unlimited veterinary fees. Consequently these policies are often more expensive.
